Original Creation a new symbol for satoshi [sats]
原創建货币符號-聰
サトシの通貨記号のオリジナル作成
.introduction
Satoshi is smallest unit of a single bitcoin or sats for short. It is named after the developer/s of the first cryptocurrency – Satoshi Nakamoto, a presumed pseudonymous person/s.
.satoshi symbol
There exists a few sats symbol proposed though not widely adopted. My attempt it to create one that is recognisable, relatable, depart from the standard of currency denomination symbol and most importantly, easy to be hand written and yet distinctively identifiable as a denomination symbol.
.inspiration
Presumedly the creator/s of the first cryptocurrency is of a Japanese origin, which his name suggest. I will get inspiration from this connection as the basis of this creation.
Satoshi can be written as さとし in hiragana or in katakana as サトシ. There are dozen of possible writings in kanji which I will omit as those characters are too complicated to be in a symbolised form. (example below)
哲 | 諭 | 悟 | 訓 | 聰 | 智 | 慧 | 敏 | 聡
Other name in kanji for Satoshi
In kanji, Satoshi Nakamoto is 中本聡. The name Satoshi is 聡 and the Nakamoto 中本. In Eastern name order, the family name is in front.
In China, he is referred to as 中本聪 [zhōng běn cōng] . Notice the difference in 聪 and 聡? The latter is the old style hanzi that is still being used by the Japanese kanji today. Both character are same in meaning but pronunciation differ between Japanese and Chinese. 聪 is the simplified hanzi character of the traditional hanzi 聰.
Hence, 1 sats is referred to as 一聪 [yī cōng] in Chinese.
.development
I use the first character of ‘sa’ – さ and サ, which will represent sats.
’S’ will be the next obvious choice as it is first alphabet of sats. I experimented with combining both the S and the Japanese character but the result was not satisfactory due to the familiarity, resulting in visual confusion. Mainly due to its common use by the dollar sign – $.
Instead I opt for the Latin alphabet ‘C’, which is the first alphabet of cryptocurrency. Upon further development, I fuse it with the Japanese character of ‘sa‘, both さ and サ. The decision is the katakana version of サ works best as a symbol when merged with ‘C‘.
.final
The final result is pleasing and most importantly – Clean and Simplicity. Any non-native writer can hand script without linguistic difficulty but instead with familiarity. The final design is abstractly recognisable as the common S symbol, which subtlety represented it as sats.
This is the final design.
Coincidentally, being the lower denomination to ₿.
The new cryptocurrency symbol akin to $ (dollar) and ¢ (cent).
.how to write the new ?
